J.R. Pike survived Battle of Ormoc Bay
J.R. Pike, gunners mate aboard the US Sumner, survived the Battle of Ormoc Bay during World War II. This battle has gone down in history as the only naval engagement during the war in which the enemy brought to bear every type of weapon available. Pike survived a suicide plane that crashed 10 ft. behind his gun mount. Hear his story and more at the Veterans Exhibit in the Depot Community Room.
